Robert Tyree is a choreographer, educator and web developer based London, England with roots in Portland, Oregon.

Robert has trained at the University of Washington, Montréal’s after-hours clubs, Oregon Ballet Theatre and Vienna’s danceWEB program at ImPulzTanz.

His earliest work pursued a concept of intensive dance through performance and publication. Discos with Deleuze, lofting with Lacan—basically club dancing meets critical theory. This culminated in the all-ages All-Night Dance as well as the design + discourse chapbook Intensive Dance. Another series of work paired blogging and dance for video with an enigmatic, improvised solo. This two-year collaboration with Romanian poet Andra Rotaru shared a mutually imagined character, Lemur.

Tyree has worked with several choreographers in Portland including Tahni Holt, Linda Austin, Lucy Lee Yim, Pepper Pepper, and Meshi Chavez.

Tyree is co-instigator of FRONT, a Portland-based newspaper devoted to fostering dialogs and literacy around contemporary dance. Additionally, his performance writings have been published online through outlets including Claudia La Rocco’s Performance Club and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.

Robert also works in web development, which you can find out about at tyreer.com
